Marc Magerman - Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer
Marc Magerman is a result driven, highly motivated entrepreneur with a strong record in building high performance organizations which generate significant top and bottom-line results and return on investment.
In addition to building the Massachusetts Burger business, Marc is President and Owner of Cinema Marketing Group, which has offered exclusive, local and regional cinema advertising since 1995 at leading independently owned cinemas throughout New England and New York. As President, CMG’s profitability has doubled since taking over in 2002. He is responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing including building and developing the sales, client service and creative departments. Further, he is solely responsible for all affiliate theater acquisition including contract negotiation, execution and fulfillment.
Prior to CMG, he was General Manager for Cox Target Media’s largest company owned franchise. After negotiating options to purchase the franchise upon successful turnaround, he was able to restructure the business which was losing over $1 million on $6 million in sales, and turn it into a profitable $10 million dollar business in three years.
Before Cox Target Media, Marc held a variety of high level sales and marketing positions which included Vice President of Sales for Fanfare Media Works and Advo Inc., the nation’s leading direct mail company with over $1 billion in sales.
Marc graduated from the University of Massachusetts and lives in Franklin, Massachusetts with his wife and two children.
Peter Biro - Co-founder and Chief Financial Officer
Peter Biro is a co-founder of Mass Burgers and helped set up operations, capital structure and strategy, recruit the operations team, work on leases and commercial agreements, and put the first few stores on the map. He is also a 2008 alum of Five Guys “Burger University” where he gained kudos for his creative wearing of oversized Five Guys baseball caps while shaking fry baskets and calling out order numbers at stores in suburban Washington.
Currently he is CFO of ObserveIT, Inc. (www.observeit.com), a Boston and Tel Aviv-based security software startup backed by Bain Capital Ventures. He joined ObserveIT from Restaurant Sciences (acquired by GuestMetrics LLC), where he served as vice president of business and corporate development and led the company’s efforts in channel partnerships, strategic alliances and product strategy. Prior to Restaurant Sciences, Mr. Biro served as an entrepreneur-in-residence at General Catalyst Partners, and as chief operating officer of publicly-traded online marketing company Lyris Inc. (NASDAQ: LYRI). He also founded The Cowper Group, a management consultancy focused on mergers and acquisitions in IT infrastructure and service companies. He began his career in information technology on Wall Street.
Peter holds an MBA from Stanford University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. He is is a frequent speaker and lecturer in the entrepreneurship division at Babson College, and is active in several Boston-area nonprofits, including Temple Beth Elohim where he serves as volunteer VP of Finance. He lives in Wellesley, MA with his wife and twin daughters, Sophie and Lily.
Peter Weber - Co-founder and Chairman
Peter Weber is a Boston-area native who now resides in suburban Washington, where he became a Five Guys fanatic. He is an accomplished senior executive who has been the driving force behind the massive growth and market success of several high-technology ventures. In addition to founding and continuing to help drive Mass. Burger's growth, Peter led a buyout and now serves as Chief Executive Officer of Carpathia Hosting, an Ashburn, VA.-based provider of hosting services to enterprise and government customers.
Most recently, he founded and built SevenSpace into the fastest-growing private company in the Metro DC region, leading the IT services firm from start-up to $25 million in revenue in less than four years, resulting in its sale to Sun Microsystems. After orchestrating the sale of the company to Sun Microsystems, he was brought on board to lead the integration and was quickly promoted to Senior Vice President of the $5 billion Services Group at Sun.
Peter’s background in private equity investment lends credibility and expertise to his leadership of start-up and expanding growth ventures. For two years he was Vice President at The Carlyle Group, one of the nation’s premier private equity firms, where he managed the IT services portfolio. Previously, upon being selected for the prestigious Kauffman Fellows Program, he worked with Spectrum Equity Investors for an intensive year-long internship.
Peter has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BBA, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts. He resides with his family in Waterford, Virginia.
Bill Ranney - Co-founder
Bill Ranney is a seasoned senior financial executive with a long proven track record of success in both large and small companies. Bill led Mass. Burger's initial debt financing efforts and continues to work closely with the organization on financial planning and analysis. He is also Chief Financial Officer of Carpathia Hosting.
As CFO for the IT Services start-up, SevenSpace, he drove the company to profitability within 24 months, during which time he orchestrated two acquisitions, rigorous management controls and multiple rounds of financing. Following four years of increasing sales and profits, he worked closely with the SevenSpace CEO to manage the sale of SevenSpace to Sun Microsystems. Subsequently, Ranney supervised the successful integration of SevenSpace into Sun’s Service Group and managed the planning and operations for the $5 Billion Services Management Group.
Bill has also held numerous senior finance positions over 15 years at Verizon, including vice president of its $1+ Billion directory publishing business and vice president responsible for the construction and launching of Verizon’s long distance voice and data network. He also participated in several acquisitions and new business start-ups at Verizon.
Ranney holds an MBA from Yale University and a BS from Cornell. A recovering New Englander who somehow roots for the New York Football Giants, he resides with his family in Potomac, Maryland.
